The Hemis Kachina is wearing a tableta composed of steps representing the stairs to the sky. On the front, the tableta is decorated with ve symbols evoking the corn cob, source of life springing from the sun. In the back, a rainy cloud symbolises fertility. The forehead is decorated with white circles representing grains of corn. The black eyes bring the geometric face alive. Cheeks are decorated with germination motifs. Originating in Jemez (Rio Grande) where it is named Hopi Hemis Kachina, this spirit is without doubt one of the most revered on the Mesas during the Niman celebrations or homecoming celebrations.

L’Hemis Kachina porte une tableta composée de marches représentant l’Escalier-du-ciel. A l’avant, la tableta est ornée de cinq symboles évoquant l’épi de maïs, source de vie, qui semble émerger d’un grand soleil. A l’arrière, un nuage de pluie symbolise la fertilité. Le front est orné de cercles blancs qui représentent des grains de maïs. Les yeux noirs en virgule animent un visage très géométrique. Les joues sont décorées de motifs de germination. Originaire de Jemez (Rio Grande) où il est nommé Hopi Hemis Kachina, cet esprit est indubitablement l’un des plus admirés sur les Mesa lors du Niman, la Fête-du-Retour-à-la-Maison.
